about margit

Margit grew up on the small island of Fyn, Denmark. Surrounded by orchards and the sea, nature became an integral part of Margit's life and inspiration for her work in clay. Now residing on Canada's West Coast, Margit is a self-taught ceramist who has lived and worked internationally.

With her strong sense of ecology, Margit's focus on the fusion of function and art is a common quality that runs through all of her work. Margit's functional dishes show her admiration for food as art and her fascination with the culture of tea is extremely visible in her vibrant teapots.

Margit uses a combination of coiling and slabbing to create her one-of-a-kind hand built ceramic pieces. Fascinated by the language and beauty of patterns, Margit finds great inspiration in recreating the recurring and stunning lines of nature in her work. Margit's love and respect for this medium is reflected in a minimalist use of glazes. In most of her work, the inherent colour of the clay is exposed and accentuated at times by delicate oxides.

The Artfarm is home to Margit's gallery and studio. Situated in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, the Artfarm offers a lovely breathing space and beautiful setting for Margit's organic, hand-built ceramic pieces. We look forward to your visit the next time you are in the Cowichan Valley!
