This Saturday I am excited to be joined by Tina Fyfe and her amazing leather bags.I will have a selection of freshly fired mugs, new vases as well as bowls.
Tina is a remarkably creative force. She has worked in a variety of mediums and has recently devoted her artistry to leather.
More about Tina and her work....
Tina Fyfe is a Vancouver Island artist who directs her eye on nature and organics. The leather bags in her Fóghnan Design series are created by hand, and with the help of a 1914 Singer Patcher treadle sewing machine.
Ninety percent of the leathers used in this series are sourced from shoe and boot companies, or saddle shops that have closed their doors. The suede undersides make for velvety surfaces upon which she adds silkscreened images.
With an interest in history and in the quality of handmade craftsmanship, Tina chooses to incorporate images of vintage lace into this Fóghnan Design series of leather bags. The 1920’s tatted doilies, with their pineapple pattern, were often crocheted and presented as house-warming gifts.
